• Emergency Lighting

Australian Standards 2293.2 require buildings with exit and emergency lighting to be tested and certified every 6 months. The Standard instructs that all Emergency evacuation lighting systems shall be inspected and maintained in accordance with the relevant procedures specified in the Standard and that the inspection and maintenance procedures shall be carried out only by persons having qualifications and experience suitable for this type of work.

Testing involves powering down of the exit and emergency lighting system for a period of 90 minutes to determine the status of the lights. At the completion of any inspection, any deficiencies in the system must be rectified as soon as practical.

ODM Electrical Contractors provide a condition report on completion of testing and store the information on site as required by AS2293.2

• Hazardous Area Inspections

We understand that many companies do not have the necessary understanding or in-house expertise to ensure hazardous area electrical inspection compliance within the workplace. Many workplaces may possess operations that produce explosive or potentially explosive atmospheres caused by flammable gases, mists, or vapours, or by combustible dusts.

Our highly trained and experienced electricians have specialised expertise in Hazardous Area electrical installation, inspection and testing, and maintenance of installations employing types of protection ‘d’, ‘e’, ’n’ and ’i’. We offer our customers well-managed hazardous area electrical inspection programs which ensure that equipment installed in hazardous areas is correctly specified and has no apparent defects which may render the equipment unsafe for continued use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

• Periodic Testing

ODM Electrical Contractors recommend carrying out periodic testing as all electrical installations deteriorate with age and use. These should therefore be inspected and tested at regular intervals to check whether they are in a satisfactory condition for continued use. All inspections are carried out in accordance with the Australian/New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS 3019:2007 Electrical installations—Periodic verification).

Upon completion of the periodic verification of an existing installation, a certificate shall be provided. Such documentation shall include details of those parts of the installation and limitations of the verification covered by the certificate, together with a record of the inspection, including any deficiencies, and the results of testing. The report may contain recommendations for repairs and improvements, such as upgrading the installation to comply with the current Wiring Rules requirements, as may be appropriate.
